Richard Hayes Summer 2019 Update

Guest post from Richard Hayes on his upcoming Charity run. Richard has been a Sockmine ambassador for many years. Based in Sheffield, Richard has developed his running passion to raise thousands of pounds for different charities since he started running in 2012.

After recovering from an injury last year resulting in a break from competing, Richard has recently qualified as a personal trainer and now is back to running as much as he can. We are proud to sponsor Richard and wish him the best of luck in his next race!

Richard Hayes Summer Update 2019

On November the 9th and 10th I will be running back to back 6-hour endurance races for The Children’s Hospital Charity. These two events take place locally in Penistone. My aim is to clock as many miles as possible over the two days.

The first race starts at 14:00 on Saturday 9th of November and continues until 20:00, then I’m back the following day at 9:00. Both races start at Penistone Community Centre and takes place on the Trans Pennine Trail on a 6.55-mile loop.

Both races are organised by the team at Saxon, Vikings and Normans.

  • Saturday: Wonderland Caucus Challenge 14:00 - 20:00
  • Sunday: Armistice Day Challenge Run 9:00 - 15:00

This is my latest and possibly my craziest challenge to date. I’m not an ultra-runner but wanted a proper challenge to show my families appreciation for what the hospital has done for my daughter since February last year when she suffered a stroke and they discovered she was born with a heart condition called Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome. If it wasn’t for the amazing team of doctors and nurses who have gone above and beyond in their care of my daughter on more than one occasion, Molly wouldn’t be with us today. We are as a family forever in their debt. This is my way of going some way to repaying that debt.

You can sponsor me via JustGiving and for example, could give £1 per mile I run. Every donation will go to charity. Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a specialist children’s hospital, providing world-class care for children all over Yorkshire, across the UK and beyond. The Children’s Hospital Charity makes Sheffield Children’s Hospital even better, by creating an environment built with children in mind. The newest addition is three world-class new wards which opened in April 2018 with 10m of your donations. But that’s not the end of the story, we aren’t finished, we still need to build a better future for our children by redeveloping the Emergency Department (ED), Child Assessment Unit (CAU) and Cancer and Leukaemia ward as well as a building a new Helipad."

Richard's Favourite Sockmine Running Socks

Richard’s favourite Sockmine socks are the Griplock Lightweight Running Socks, they are designed to combat the problem many runners dread: blisters. By following the exact contours of your feet, our anti-blister socks minimise any movement between the sock and your skin, removing any friction and preventing you from getting blisters.
